Taylor Donofrio, Choreographer
“I am always baffled by her intuitive ability to make me feel like my bone structure has movement of its own.”
- LA Dance Chronicle
Currently based in Los Angeles, Taylor has worked as a choreographer in NYC for the past decade. She founded her own Contemporary Dance Company, Donofrio Dance Company in 2010 in Brooklyn, NY and since has recently completed her MFA in Choreography at the California Institute of the Arts. She is currently creating site-specific works, performance experiences, and works for the screen as she examines new approaches to performance through artistic exchanges, her work informed by collaborators from various disciplines. Her recent work and thesis, INTERIOR became a significant collaboration with Chinese Scenic Designer Yuki Ding and Los Angeles experimental music Duo Squash & Biscuit who have become long term collaborators. Taylor’s approach to dance incorporates a psychoanalytic perspective, exploring one’s inner landscape and how it connects to our relationships, and understanding of the world.
Her work has been presented in NYC at Triskelion Arts, Center for Performance Research, FLICfest, INSITU Site-Specific Dance Festival, 92Y, Gibney Dance, Jacob Burns Film Center, and in Los Angeles at the Sharon Disney Lund Dance Theater, and at Heidi Duckler’s Ebb & Flow. Taylor has held choreographic residencies at the Irondale Theater, Dragons Egg, and Governor’s Island and has been featured in Aligned Magazine and Dance Informa magazine.
